I just saw Jorno's comment, and have tried in Karmic 9.10 RC on my HP
Pavillion TX2522AU and the pen/touchscreen works great!!

Hi, I'm running an ASUS A8M Laptop, and having the same problem running
2.6.22-14-generic.
The work-around of adding acpi=off in the kernel boot string is working
for me, but wasn't needed with the 2.6.20 kernel.

constant hdd access every 2-3 seconds.

To add the options ohci-hcd no_handshake=1 to bootup:
1) Create /etc/init.d/usbfix.sh

Googling, I've found that the following will re-activate the mouse after
startup:
$ sudo rmmod ohci-hcd
$ sudo modprobe ohci-hcd no_handshake=1
This will re-activate the mouse.

& linux image 2.6.17-11-generic.
I have upgraded to the latest BIOS available (v215) and am still
experiencing the problem: "USB HC takeover failed!"
However, I have something else to add... I can get my USB mouse to work
