I had the same issue on an Acer Aspire One with a fresh Lubuntu 17.10.1 install. Trying to prevent the system from continuously going to sleep I set "HandleSuspendKey" and "HandleLidSwitch" to ignore in /etc/systemd/login.conf. After that the screen problem appeared. When I commented out the
