I've removed backports-modules and installed a recent compat-wireless from
source. I don't get those errors anymore.
It seems backports need an update.

I pulled mplayer from svn trunk hoping to build and see it myself.
The configure script successfully passed DPMS Check, although I had no
libxcb-dpms* package installed. So, I installed
libxcb-dpms0, libxcb-dpms0-dev
and rebuilt mplayer from trunk. Now, mplayer does not dim display (no need to
I have the same problem on Intel GM965 X3100 running up-to-date 8.10.
Upgrading xserver-xorg-video-intel to 2.5.1 and libdrm to 2.4.1 did not help.
However, disabling DPMS in Monitor section in xorg.conf helped, and now mplayer
does not dim display.
So, this looks like a DPMS issue.

This issue still lingers. It's so trivial, hence I don't understand why I'm

I'm also having this problem, the only difference is the line:

It happens sporadically at startup, no repeatable case have I come across so
far.

I have an Acer Aspire 5715z (T2330 processor, BIOS v1.34) running

I downgraded the BIOS to some previous version. Things look normal now (temp.
stabilized @45-50C, fan regularly turns on/off).
Sorry for the noise.

ACPI fan control problem by ACER
I have an Acer Aspire 5715z (T2330 processor, BIOS v1.34) running Hardy Heron
that never stops its fan.
The fan starts spinning when temp. exceeds 45C, and it gradually decreases,
however acpi -t reading does not go lower than 35C. sensors (from lm_sensors)
readings go as low as 5C per core!
I think this is related to workspace settings.
When gnome-compiz-preferences is started and that error is popped, the number
of workspaces on desktop becomes 1, which is also very annoying.

I had this issue on a fresh Hardy Heron RC installation, on both gnome-terminal
and xfce's Terminal.
This system in question is a notebook.
I removed the symlink to 10-no-sub-pixel.conf, and added a symlink to
10-sub-pixel-rgb.conf
Now terminal fonts look better.
I hope we get a better fix for
