I know it's not a fix and it may be impractical for the majority of users but
if you simply resize the column you're searching before opening the filter then
the dialogue box adjusts to the column width.
It's then easy enough to revert the column size once you find what you seek.

I researched this issue for about 6+ hours or so and finally came across
this thread. I have been able to solve the issue thanks to this thread.
