I still don't know what happened, but running update-info-dir solved the
problem, just before I found the bug I had installed the autoconf-doc
package, but purging and reinstalling it did not reproduce the bug. But
this is definitely not a 'texinfo' bug, if it is a bug at all. Maybe it

As per subject, on hardy amsn (0.97+final-0ubuntu5) does not connect to
server. Apparently, this is due to microsoft changing something on the
servers.
Asking on the amsn forum, I discovered that 0.97.2 would work. So I
tried to install the intrepid package, but id did not
@Daniel: the fact that the user needs to logout/login is a basic property of
how the permission system works on linux, and in any *nix system. i.e. the
system checks user's groups at login.
Anyhow, on other systems you need a reboot, login/logout is cheap.

The problem does not appear to depends on the updater, but in the fact that the
data in the plugin released by adobe has changed.
Remember that the ubuntu package is just an installer. When you install the
ubuntu package, it downloads the plugin from adobe and installs it for you.
