Th bug was reported in 2009 and in Kubuntu 18.10 the bloody thing is
still making my laptop unusable for several minutes every day after boot
although it's not even in cron.daily. It is super annoying.

As the link of comment 3 is no longer available, I searched for e new
workaround. For me deactivating "Apply colours to non-QT applications"
in System settings -> Colour -> Options fixes the issue in KDE plasma
5.7.5. Maybe this should be deactivated by default?

Public bug reported:
This bug is related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1463422, same behaviour,
but different hardware. Using commands
sudo shutdown -p
sudo shutdown -h
sudo halt
sudo poweroff
will work on the software side, but the system will not power off
I have created a seperate bug for the Medion Akoya E1232T:

Christopher, I have subscribed you.

I have exactly the same issue with an Medion Akoya E1232T, with two minor
differences:
1: After halt I have to press the power button long to switch it of physically.
2: After reboot I get a black screen.
Apart from that the behaviour is exactly as described by Kevin. This
machine has a
Still an issue for me on 13.10 with Atheros AR9285, reading from my SMB-
NAS works fine but during writes, the whole system comes to a crawl,

I can confirm this alos, Kubuntu 9.04, amarok 2.0.2. At them moment I am
listening to an album of the collection, mp3, and it happens about every
second song. Fadeout is disabled. Cannot link it to any spec of the
song, because they play fine manually. VERY annoying.
