I have some new information about this. I just watched an entire 2h
movie with VLC player. Worked nicely, fed DTS to my amplifier the whole
time. And sounds even work afterwards.
After, I played YouTube video and got a system message (blink) and
boom! The sound was broken. It seems that
I moved to Kubuntu Karmic. It has never Nouveau driver. No more tearing
on the blank screen saver, and I haven't seen as much corruption as in
Jaunty. None actually if I remember correctly. And 1080p movies are
smoother than before (well, never VLC too, so).
But anyway, I'd say that this is fixed

reason. I didn't change anything. I was frustrated and upgraded to the
development release Karmic. It at least gives me an error message about
the lack of sound. The sound works correctly in Windows.

I can confirm this on Karmic with Geforce 9800GTX+ using Nouveau driver.
XRANDR works, and creates the dual screen when the correct spell is
typed on the Konsole. But if I open the System Settings - Display, I
get little bit of flickering and I have a clone mode again within my 2
displays :( So
I don't really know, this isn't really related to the open source ATI
driver. Even thought I mentioned that they usually fail to work, but I
think that is a different bug and reported elsewhere :) But let's see
the comments then...

I noticed this on my Kubuntu Jaunty (backports enabled). Running Amarok
2.1.1 in KDE 4.2.2.
I have my MP3 collection in an NTFS partition, mounted in fstab with following
line:
/dev/sda3 /media/Warez\0401 ntfs-3g quiet,defaults,rw 0 0
Amarok refreshes the list every 20 seconds or so scrolling

wiki. It did not work. If I recall correctly the latest catalyst I tried

currently available 4.2.2. Core components have had major optimizations
and bug fixes during 4.2.2 - 4.2.4 which greatly affect the total
OpenChrome guys did a good job fixing the bug in their trunk with r749.
It is about time for Kubuntu/Ubuntu guys to pass on the good bug killing
spirit and apply this patch! This really is a show stopper on Kubuntu
Jaunty. It would be good to find the fix fast through the updates!

I tried it with Kubuntu Jaunty with latest OFFICIAL updates. I just
installed the updated NM package from the Jaunty proposed.
BEFORE update:
- Tested on non secured visible WLANs: works, reconnecting too
- Hidden networks do NOT work
- WLAN plasma menu cluttered and kicker panel plus other
More thoughts:
- I was too hasty, reconnecting to hidden networks seems to work BUT ONLY when
I have one visible network set to auto connect. The NM prioritizes the visible
network but on failure may connect to the hidden one set as auto connect as well
- Plasma menu seems to list my WLANs only
Ok, as you can see from the remote bug watch, the problem is fixed in
the OpenChrome trunk. BUT I tried earlier the OpenChrome deb for Karmic
Koala and the problem was still present. So the fix has not been applied
there either.

Any tips on this? With NoAccel I sure can get to KDE and even the
resolution is right. But the performance is terrible! In Firefox
scrolling a page is sluggish and irritating, videos can't be played due
to the speed and glxgears gives 50FPS! It is unusable! Any ways to
increase the performance?

Konqueror scrolls ok, and everything seems to work good enough in KDE.
Just FireFox and videos are taking a hit. I wrote to VIA but I seriously
doubt they'll provide any support.

Can I just say that this is awesome :) Well, expected behavior for a
modern OS. But given that I've never succeeded in this before, it's
awesome. By this I mean in hooking up two displays with NVIDIA graphics
card.
I switched to XRender. And I've got all the effects, performance is
good, I can
I have KDE (KWin). I do have compositing enabled in the System Settings.
But I doubt it works since I lost all the transparencies and effects
when I swapped to Nouveau. Also my OpenGL screen saver is not working.
How do I enable the compositing then?

Not even in Jaunty :( Screensavers are somewhat important to normal
users. At least it is considered really basic stuff that should be
there. (K)ubuntu IS a desktop linux and should serve as such.
Why don't Kubuntu team select the cream of the crop from the
screensavers and include them. Or just

Yes I did check it, it was ok. And I tried the installation many times,
even so that I did a dist-upgrade (of course the newer kernel didn't
want to install, but other updates installed ok) on the desktop and
tried installing. Nothing worked :(

I tried the installation so that all the drives have NTFS partitions.
And HD1 has Windows Vista 64-bit installed. HD2 had an empty space
(which would be the place I want Kubuntu to install) as illustrated:

Artists to the artist fields of such albums. Then the magic happened:
1) There was a Various Artists under V with these listed correctly

It would be great if somebody uploaded this to updates. I mean, it
doesn't broke anything and it's solved? Apparently the solution is
valid? Usability and finishing of Ibex would rise easily. Very buggy
release (not all Kubuntu's fault, but KDE's too) and even the smallest
fix would be huge
Adept on Kubuntu Intrepid seems to freeze totally while trying to
install this. And the download address on the Konsole isn't correct.

I did it on a desktop computer with Kubuntu Hardy this time. It has C2D,
GeForce 7900GS @ 1600x1200 and also jockey generated xorg.conf. And the
symptoms are the same, displayconfig shows 640x480 and NV instead of
NVIDIA and 1600x1200.
However the displayconfig didn't give any output.

I don't much care about the optimizations on the newer versions. And I
agree that something that works should not be updated or replaced in a
release version. But apparently we NTFSers are all in danger currently
and this needs to be addressed in great haste. And I know I'm literally
going to cry

I have a freshly installed Kubuntu Hardy with all the updates to date.
NV was working ok as it should, but when I used Jockey to switch to
NVIDIA-GLX-NEW I get weird behavior on 3D. The computer and Kubuntu is
behaving nicely until I introduce some 3D, like glxgears or OpenGL
Will this ever get fixed or is it just triaged (do it yourself)?

I installed Xubuntu on an quite old P3 Intel SE440 motherboard.
Everything seems fine except I'm unable to connect to the Internet.
Xubuntu says it's unable to find any devices. The computer is equipped
with 3Com 10/100 3C905B-TX Fast EtherLink® XL PCI TX Network Interface

After enabling NVIDIA drivers from Jockey (Hardware Drivers Manager),
Adept fetches them and Jockey just closes. No message, no nothing. In my
humble opinion there should be the blue restart icon on the system tray
and a message popping

Kubuntu's system settings reports resolution and the driver wrongly in
System Settings - Monitor Display. Instead of 1200x800 it says 640x480,
and instead of NVIDIA it says NV.
Using Kubuntu Hardy on Toshiba Satellite A100 with GeForce 7300GO @
1200x800 resolution.

something selected to install from repos that now has been disabled.
To reproduce:
1) Enable e.g. Pre-released updates
2) Select full upgrade after the new list is loaded
