A workaround for ubuntu 14.04 with nvidia driver is to disable backing
store in xorg:
Make sure you have the -bs option in lightdm config file:
cat /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-xserver-command.conf
[SeatDefaults]
# Dump core
xserver-command=X -bs -core

This bug is caused by empathy and the extension that empathy is using to
communicate to Gnome-shell tray. I am using pidgin at this moment and i
do not have any issues. I miss empathy's integrated messaging system.

I receive this error on every message received by empathy.
I believe the problem is from the integrated extension in gnome-shell.
I am using ubuntu 12.10 and gnome-shell 3.6.2 but this also occurrs on 3.6.1
The problem is that sometimes the try massage disappears completely
