Sounds like bug 1965563 but not quite. When I try to run Extensions app
from the terminal I get a different error, although related to display.

My experience is the same as @hasi described, but I'm on Ubuntu 18.04.
Accessing via Nautilus by typing 'dav://url.com/Folder' is as fast as

But the keyboad backlight and screen brightness bugs appears in all
versions of ubuntu from 14.04 to 15.10 for sure, as well as in kernel
versio 4.4.0-040400rc4.

Successfully installed the latest 4.4 kernel and can confirm that the
problem persists. I would like to point out another bug most likely
related to it.
When resuming from stand-by the keyboard backlight is off and screen is
on full power i.e. not restored from when computer went to sleep. When
I upgraded my bios, here is the output:
