Not sure if this will help but I've just run another update and got the errors with Likewise-open again although it appears to be installed according to Synaptic. The following errors appeared in the listed log files - E: likewise-open: subprocess installed post-installation script returned

I just tried again and noticed that during the process there was a not running grub install /dev/sda. Since sda is the pen drive (mounted as /cdrom) then this is writing grub to the pen drive and not the internal hdd. -- Installing from USB drive writes boot sector to USB not HDD
