I made a test with the standard 4.15.0-62-generic kernel. The result is
the same, and I add that the laptop takes 3-4 minutes to pass from the
login screen to a ready desktop.

I have a similar problem using qemu-kvm in kubuntu 14.04.1, while running
linux-mint 17.1 or elementary os 0.3 beta 1 in the virtual machine.
In the case of linux mint, the desktop is more or less ok, but some objects are
corrupted.
If you look at the first attached screenshot you will see three

I have been using kubuntu in laptops since 13.04 version.
Now I use kubuntu 14.04.1 in my Dell Latitude 5530 and a small Asus eeepc
1215b. I have always had exactly the same problem in both laptops: when trying
to open the download folder in firefox Gwenview is the result instead of Dophin.

Ok, after some new attempts I can file a report of what's going on.
I tried again with a live session on a daily ubuntu image. By issuing manually
inside a shell the command
sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source
the wireless network is immediately recognised.
So I decided to try this same
I tried with the latest ubuntu image, via unetbootin and a USB drive.
Once opened the live session I checked the wireless network: it doesn't
work!
