built with javahelper at a time when libarchive-zip-perl had a bug so
all the jar's produced were corrupt. So the current version is totally
useless.

OK, this doesn't work how I thought it did. Neither $CROSS nor $STRIP
are special and don't relate to the STRIP=foo set in Makefile. autoconf
got that right all by itself (presumably from --host). The issue is that
debian/rules wants to be able to say 'use the STRIP defined in

Can you explain what is being asked for here to someone unfamiliar with
this booting method?
I'm assuming there is a uboot file stored somewhere on the lost that
gets copied over USB to boot the panda somehow?
Where does that file currently get stored? You want to be able to store
multiple copies
o real hardware as well as no qemu
support :-)
It's important that simple M-A:same library packages should install
without qemu support unless it is absolutely unavoidable.

With a large cross building patch applied it gets much further, and
instead dies trying to link wrong-arch libbz2:
