I still have the same issue, on an old Sony VAIO, running Xubuntu
(8.10).
Shutdown, log out switch user have always been a bit buggy (tending to
go halfway, then freeze with just the wallpaper and cursor showing,
especially in lomem situations), but since upgrading to Intrepid
