Also to be added, as mentioned in the comments in the code, the hp jack does
not produce any
output which means I can't listen to music without disturbing others. :(

Nevermind. I figured out a way to click and drag.
Enable tap-click.
Tap click with one finger and swipe/drag with another.
Also happened to notice that clicking with a finger and then dragging with four
fingers seems to
drag things around although not very comfortably.

I'm facing the same problem with my MacBook Pro 5.2 and the release version of
Ubuntu (Karmic) 9.10. Haven't yet found a solution to this problem.
The only workaround I have right now is to use a wireless mouse!
