the internet regarding that Ubuntu devs are ignorant of bug reports look
to have some grounds.
Anyway,
the finer solution to the problem is changing the nsswitch.conf as follows:

The issue does not appear for me in Lucid.

Also happens on Kubuntu Karmic. I can play smb:// files fine using
kaffeine, but amarok can only browse them - when trying to add a file to
playlist - amarok just does nothing.

It looks like none of kde3 apps can not BROWSE smb:// shares. Typing
smb://somehost in location bar return Malformed URL error. This happens for
amarok, kaffeine. Probably others.

This indeed happens with FF3. I'm using default font configuration. Once (in a
several tens of reboots) it happened to me that this problem has not appeared.
But in majority cases it does happen.

The same URL, but FF3. Notice monstrous quotes font size compared to
small navigation font. The font is so big, that quotes spans to almost
all of the 1920 pixel screen width.

If I start firefox and my screen resolution is 1920x1200 - but occures!
But if I change my screen resolution to 1280x800 and restart firefox - it looks
just fine! (resizing screen to bigger resolution while firefox is running -
does not trigger the bug).
