It is reproducible apparently. I don't know if it's really a bug but it's confusing, especially for inexperienced users. Open any folder with enough folders and files to browse different pages, then go in Nautilus' preferences, check Use Compact Layout then close preferences and browse a few

I have exactly the same behavior on a fresh install of Ubuntu Intrepid. Thunderbird lauched correctly only once, then became unusable. Installing thunderbird-gnome-support changed nothing. Tried to remove, purge and reinstall thunderbird package but the problem still persist. -- (Kubuntu
