Are these tasks up-to-date and maintained by Ubuntu? Who knows. I never
even heard about tasks and tasksel until well after the abysmal
experience of trying to install the xubuntu-desktop package.
When I google "install xubuntu-desktop" this is what I see.

My experience is that installing 'apt-get install xubuntu-desktop'
doesn't produce the desired results as it pulls in recommends that will
pull in the extra items listed above in #32 for the reasons explained in
#25.
I've had better success with 'apt-get install xubuntu-desktop^' which
doesn't pul
I've recently installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS server on two different
computers when I ran across this issue. (For legitimate reasons newer
versions of Ubuntu was not an option).
One one computer I was able to enter the password and on the other I was
not able to enter the password.
