I've managed to compile and load madwifi after blacklisting ath5k. This
solves the problem. For now.
Will this bug be rectified if I update to the latest kernel?

Try deleting /etc/network/interfaces and reboot. You should get Network
Manager running again.

Why do we need both Mirage and GPicView at the same time? GPicView has a
much better user interface. Why not stick to that?
