Trying to add some information: the bug persisted on 2.6.15-27 but when
downgrading the BIOS version from F.08 to F.06, sometimes battery status
works.
I don't know exactly why, other times, acpi battery status remains
constant just after starting the computer.

I have the same poblem with HP Compaq nx6310 (Intel Centrino Duo) both
with kernel 2.6.15-26-386 (no SMP) and 2.6.15-26-686 (with SMP).
