The bug is still present in 5.3 (from Ubuntu). I haven't had a chance to
check upstream yet. Is any maintainer monitoring this ?

I have a similar problem where under Gnome(gusty) I have a VPN
connection setup using X509 key and a password. This works fine in Gnome
