I've got a question: since I think I might have installed apparmor in Feisty (I'm not sure, but it's a possibility) maybe it's that that messed up the upgrade. Can I simply unistall it and reinstall it in Gutsy or would i break the system? I really need to get rid of those 5 minutes boot time.

SOLVED! Mathias, thanks a lot for your help. Probably because of a poorly-made installation in Feisty, the whole apparmor-profiles package was not installed in my system, and that caused the problem. It is not even a bug, it's the result of a bad installation. -- boot hangs at system log

It seems this is a version of bug 140274 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/140274) that seems to be marked as solved, but there's no suggestion on how to solve it there. I'm attaching my dmesg.log to show that the system gets stuck on this call [ 20.692000]
