That would be – imo and as far as I can judge this – a really simple
but smart approach to get rid of this ridiculous problem which forces
me to disable the master password feature completely. But the question
is why noone came up with such an idea before?!

I also confirm this bug and it is REALLY ANNOYING and should – in my
opinion – be fixed ASAP. I am also a user who uses more than one tab
at once in addition to the auto-restore function.
For me, the bug can be monitored since Firefox Version 1.5!

Okay, I could now reproduce a freeze without(!) running compiz:
With the most recent kernel (2.6.24-12-generic) and fglrx driver 8.3 (8.47.3)
try starting glxgears, abort it (ctrl+c), switch to console (ctrl+alt+F1),
start glxgears again - freeze!
This did not occur when using the standard

I just tried to follow the step in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingXorg, but when I try to restart X it
freezes, and when I pgrep Xorg, I get two process numbers. If I try to
attach process No 1, I get the following error message:

No, logout/login and suspend/resume seem to work, but with the ati-driver
everything is white with no textures while all compiz effects seem to work (at
least slowly)...
So what are we - the (newbie) users supposed to do? I guess we just have to
