I have the same problem, on Ubuntu 8.04 32bit.
As you said, in beta they were automounted.

I just had this problem. It took me 15 minutes to figure what's wrong. I
restarted ubuntu 2 times...
Finally, i run top and then saw what was the problem.
This happened while i was surfing... Nothing especially.
I use 8.04 amd64 desktop beta.
