Mine started working reliably after some unkown combination of
uninstalling and reinstalling. It sucks, but that's the best anyone
seems to be able to offer.

then reverts after seconds. Serious impediment to music organizing.

Ok, another attempt at this. No screenshots, sorry about that.
Process starting from no wireless drivers installed (completely removed via
synaptic). No wired connections working either.
Boot. Login. Insert Ubuntu Karmic x64 live cd.
Go to pool, reserved, install bcmwl.
Go to pool, main, install
I had this same thing happen to me. I've been using an upgraded 9.10
since release, but tonight I did a full re-install, and my wireless
stopped working. b43 will activate, but doesn't work (wireless networks
not shown in network manager applet). The first time I tried STA, it
activated,
