Disabling 'desktop icons' from the extensions app fixes this for me.
Once disabled, even just the action of clicking on the toggle in the
extensions app has the same effect, the desktop becomes unresponsive
(though the mouse moves) for about 30 seconds, then finally the

I'm seeing something very similar.
Did a fresh install of 20.04 a week ago.
After being logged in half a day things really start slowing down.
Alt+Tab takes a few seconds to pop up, then you tab through to e.g. an
open Calculator instance and that takes 8 seconds to come to the
foreground.

ok thanks that worked a treat.
Running snap directly there was a progress indicator so i could see that
snap downloads are very very very slow. 200kb/s. I'm on a a basic
residential 100Mbits fibre line, so apt downloading deps from the ubuntu
mirror is usually quick, 10MB/s. So the snap
ok after 20 mins i abort again. snap reports the following

error: cannot perform the following tasks:
- Download snap "chromium" (1213) from channel "stable" (context canceled)
dpkg: error processing archive
ok i found 'snap changes' and did snap abort.
Now stuck on 20% again...

I see this on 18.04 with google remote desktop too.
Run this command and gnome-terminal should start working without
requiring a logout/in

Updating my graphics driver from catalyst 14.4 (14.10) to 14.6 beta
(14.20) fixed the resume from sleep issue.
Version numbers are a bit confusing, the ATI branded version number on
the download is 14.6, but the driver itself once installed reports
itself as 14.20

Same here Ubuntu 14.04. Acer Aspire One 722 with AMD C-60 APU.
screen does not come back after sleep. Backlight comes on but blank
screen. Alt+f1 to console works. From there restart lightdm and all is
good. PITFA to have to restart after every sleep. Kinda defeats the
point of 'sleep' when

package dictionaries-common 1.12.1ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade:
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit
Totally breaks the user experience for many applications. An icon that
behaves inconsistently is better than an application running in the
background with no UI and no explanation to the user why it has
apparently failed to start.
It also seems like ubuntu is going down it's own parallel world
Sames probs here on a fresh 11.10 install...
And same fix, installing gtk2-engines-pixbuf stops my terminal windows
filling up with errors.

This packages were already installed for me
but remove and then install of ubuntuone-control-panel-gtk fixed it.
