the drm-intel-nightly kernel didn't fix the issue.
I began attempting to trace the issue and search for clues as to why
this is happening.
I am attaching three kernel log files with kernel switch: drm.debug=0x05
All of these are kernel logs after a "xset dpms force off".

Additional info: When in intended setup (two monitors on one DP) the

- Connecting just the ASUS to the adapter (other HDMI port unpopulated) the
monitor flickers repeatedly, indefinitely, often. This is regardless of which

Title:
Oh... This is kind of important I guess... I'm using vmware-view-open-
client because vmware-view-client is, for some reason, i386 only -
perhaps that's due to being non-open source as the maintainer of this
package noted.
vmware-view-open-client was as noted above, annoyingly, removed from

Oh, and, I get the feeling the symlink/packaging part will not be fixed any
time soon.
http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/vmware-view-open-client exists

the fact that on computer #1 I have vmware-view-open-client in
Corporate config changed years ago. I'll see if I can find a network to
try it on - wouldn't surprise me if it has been fixed in the interim
though. Feel free to close it if you like... I can always file a new
one and reference this one.

One more thing to add. The maintainer I think was under the impression the
semi-broken vmware-view package (that has that hardcoded module directory path)
was closed source, so:

Public bug reported:
Probably the PAE issue I reported before again
ProblemType: Package
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.10
Package: linux-image-4.2.0-23-generic (not installed)
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.2.0-22.27-generic 4.2.6
Uname: Linux 4.2.0-22-generic i686
ApportVersion: 2.19.1-0ubuntu5
Working around the problem for now with this:
cat /proc/cpuinfo | sed 's/flags\t*:/& pae/' > /tmp/cpuinfo_pae
sudo mount -o bind /tmp/cpuinfo_pae /proc/cpuinfo
sudo mount -o remount,ro,bind /proc/cpuinfo
But would like a more permanent solution

confirm in Ubuntu-15.10 this bug still exists. in gnome3 nautilus how to
invalidate the ssh host cache?
I can remove ~/.ssh/known_hosts (or by ssh-keygen -R ... that particular
host) that resolved ssh command line login only; but in the file manager

Public bug reported:
This machine (I believe) has PAE capabilities (Pentium-M), but 15.10 has become
very unforgiving of machines that don't report PAE flags in /proc/cpuinfo.
I had a royal pain in the behind upgrading from 15.04 (where --forcepae just
did the business) to 15.10 because this
Public bug reported:
When displays go to sleep, upon return from sleep the two monitors
attached to a belkin mini displayport to 2x HDMI, do not return from
sleep. This results in part of the desktop being inaccessible, until the
external displays are unplugged, and then plugged back in.
