that I can drive the Radeon 9650 at AGP x8 if I disable DRI completely
via Option "NoAccel" "true" in /etc/xorg.conf.

It seems the patches to force Radeon cards into PCI-mode (or force it
via radeon.agpmode=-1) are no definitive solution. My G4 and G5 Macs
hold out longer running X but sooner or later a hard lock is
unavoidable. Tested this on a recent software stack: 4.8.1-kernel, xorg-
server-1.18.4,

Todays (03.10.2016) daily iso is still unbootable on my G5, though it is
a lot more verbose about not finding a media containing a live
filesystem. See attatched screenshot.
Now as I see theres error messenges I rememember the same error happened
during the beta phase of Ubuntu MATE 16.04 too, at
Upgraded the Ubuntu MATE 16.10 on-disc installation to the recent linux-
image-4.8.0-16. Like the daily-iso the PM 7,3 does not boot but I get
more usedul error messages displayed on the framebuffer.

Finally got around compiling a proper mainline Ubuntu 4.8-rc3 kernel.
Unfortunately it does not boot into my root partition due to an btrfs

The default theme seems broken. There are no spaces between the text
entries in the panel. Cajas apprearance is mixed between black and white

"r128" is the appropriate driver for your card but obiously does not
work properly on your hardware. It would be a good idea to let the
upstream devs know that. xorg/driver/xf86-video-r128 is actively
maintained and still receives patches (last one 8 days ago). You could
file a bug against
Check your boot messages with "journalctl -k" and your
/var/log/Xorg.0.log then you will get a hint what went wrong with r128.
On current Ubuntu versions there is no need for an xorg.conf, only if
you need to tune some specific parameters. No fiddling around with "sudo
Xorg-configure" needed.

ext2 /boot/ partition. Interestingly enough, the automatically created
/etc/yaboot.conf worked fine!
Are there any known issues regarding yaboot & ext4 & partition size?

Just did an entire disk install from todays (24.07.2016) Yakkety daily.
Installation procedure went fine, but the automatically created
/etc/yaboot.conf seems faulty.
1st stage-boot runs fine, the boot options are displayed correctly,
pressing "L" leaves me at the 2nd stage
As of Yakkety's todays daily iso (24.07.2016) this bug is gone due to an
update mesa-11.2.1 -> mesa-12.0.1.
