According to gnome-system-monitor (by checking the dependencies option) this
nameless process has no parent, just like init.
I'm not even sure whether this is possible, but something must be wrong if
system-monitor can't figure out it's parent. I would look in proc for details,
but the process
I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 64bit and I have the same problem that most of you have
already described.
My workstation has 4 Gb of ram and I usually have the swap partitions disabled,
I only activate them if I really need to. I also have my workstation on 24/7
and a lot of services (like mysqld, sshd,
I have the same issue here, also using Ubuntu 9.10.
The only additional information that I can provide is that the screen problems
disappear once compiz is enabled.
Beside the gnome-system-monitor I've noticed the same problem with Ubuntu One's
notification popups (for example when it says that

sometimes they are usually more colored, definitely not greyscale.

dante-server installation using apt fails on ubuntu 8.10

I would like to install dante SOCKS server on my machine:
I use Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit
When I try to install it from a terminal I get the following error:
xx: apt-get install dante-server
Reading package lists... Done

Reading state
I can confirm this as well.
In my case the power history is always empty, although the computer was running
from the battery.
