Long ago (circa 2008) in Synaptic I unchecked that option (install
recommended packages as if they were dependencies). I never noticed an
issue like the one I'm describing after upgrading from 08.10 to 9.04
then to 9.10, then to 10.04 and then to 10.10.

Maybe you are right, but with Jaunty Jackalope installed on the very

Since I upgraded my Ubuntu from 10.04 to 10.10, I cannot use new linux images
(2.6.35*). After reboot, initramfs console stops boot.
I noticed that even the live CD 10.10 cannot start. I think this is the best
way to reproduce it.
Unfortunately, I do not know how to debug

Sorry, I screw up, I just test it and it was all in english, I set the
charset to 'ansi' instead of 'iso-8859-1'. I tested this one (save the
'.mo' with poedit and overwrite the original) and it work ok, except for
one string in line 134 that isn't translated at all (perhaps because of

I *believe* that the reason is the following: seeing as applications running in
the UNR environment are always maximized (by default) and that the Netbook

I have an Acer Aspire One, and started working with two displays.
Every time I access the main launcher screen (clicking in the upper left corner
on the Ubuntu logo), all the applications that are positioned in the second

The problem appears after a few minutes, without any particular reason.
I will try to deactivate the nVidia driver and see if the problem
appears again.

Can't unlock screen when using a
Uninstalling gnome-screensaver solves the issue. Obviously you lose the
screensaving functionality, but you can switch users with the fast user
switch applet. When password is needed GDM asks for it, not the gnome-
screensaver locked screen.

Process Xorg was stopped manually to be able to run apport-cli. Before,
priority was manually set to minimum 19+20=39.
Problem appeared since the new linux-image update (2 days ago).
