Same issue here. I run a fresh Gutsy installation (no upgrade) with
nvidia-glx-new and compiz, but xserver-xgl not installed. And the screen goes
blank after 20min of playback on all my players (totem, mplayer, vlc...). 20min
was my setting for screensaver in the screensaver preferences,
