this sounds really bad... as far as I understood, there's supposed to be
a bug on acer bios? that sounds quite bad... is it possible kernel code
that discriminates the right PCI device is buggy? isn't it possible to
perform any action but a simple workaround?

I can confirm it apparently solved the issue. kernel Panic was not
related to HD failures. After linux-backport-modules-jaunty i kept
sharing internet with ad-hoc wireless connection and problem didn't
occurr anymore. Thanks a lot.

I got what happens to me. After hibernation (when notebook recovers
again), when i definitely login (it asks for my password to login after
hibernation) i can see Ubuntu asks me how I want to shutdown the system,
exactly as if I pressed power button (but I didn't!!). So if I am not
quick enough

Sound problems with Acer Aspire 6920G are almost solved with ALSA 1.0.20
and model=auto workaround.
Anyway there is no way to let the internal/front Mic be recognized. All
switches and all indicators has been tried (alsamixer, applet, etc etc).
External mic (line in) works

I don't know if it's the same problem as here... Hibernation works fine,
but when it is restored I have just a few seconds to move the mouse and
login back again, otherwise it AUTOMATICALLY decides to shutdown.. I
don't know if it is an option of Jaunty or what...but it's quite
annoying.. becase

After purging and reistalling package ' xserver-gsxorg-input-synaptics'
it started working unexpectedly (after reboot). At least i think the
two thing are strictly linked.

EDIT: Now (after ~150MB of updates) on-screen notification for
brightness works (as respons to Fn + and ), but nothing happens with
actual brightness level... Hope you'll fix it soon

I tested mainline kernel 27-19 and
brightness control WORKS again, sending the ± when is enhancing.
By the way I can't use mainline kernel since i have restricted drivers
to use :\
Jaunty-beta3: doens't solve anything, only applet works again.

I have a problem with NVIDIA drivers and mainline kernel. It is also
written in limitations that restricted drivers will not work...and
that's what happened to me.
Did you try Jaunty and brightness worked? You said in your previous

I confirm in my acer aspire 6920G the brightness control is BROKEN. I
also tried the jaunty-beta3, and I can report the following:
- HotKeys are correctly recognized (and notification works properly)
- Brightness is not affected using hotkeys, it cannot be changed.

As an example I can report sunbird, which replaced (along with
Thunderbird) Evolution in my system. This calendar system works well and
implements for notifications the same behaviour I theorized in the
previous comment.

yes, it is an issue and not a blocker, but at the same time for people who use
Evolution for productivity and at work (like me) it is a remarkable bug.
Calendars and appointment management are not a secondary feature in Evolution.
