I have been able to get around this by using the nouveau.modeset=0 to
boot the liveusb and get Ubuntu 18.04 installed, however there is still
the compatibility issue of nouveau to a GTX1050

(Supermicro X10DRH-iLN4) with an NVidia GTS 1050. It currently has
14.04 desktop installed and it installs/works without issues. I am
using a live USB stick with either desktop 18.04, 18.04.01 or server
I have a firewire removable chassis that worked just fine up until 9.04.
Afterwards it does not appear anywhere in the system. modules seem to
be loaded but I can plug/unplug the drive in and out of the system and
nothing appears. External USB drives work fine as do 32Gb USB memory
sticks.

After many moons, I realized I had upgraded to a new bios that supports
SATA raid better under vista. Bios V3.10 I believe. Backdating to the
previous release fix the problem and allowed for a full install to run.

Alrighty, it's 8.04 launch day. I grabbed a good copy of the new iso
from the net, burned it to a cd and checked to make sure it was a good
cd. Did the install and rebooted. Same thing happened again this time
except that it just dropped into busybox without any message.

Hey folks. this bug is a symptom of a problem that is way higher up the
Debian food chain. the fix for this needs to come from the Debian
distro folks.
If 7.04 does not work for you stick with 6.10, it's stable and it
works. I have no idea whether or not this issue will be fixed by 7.10.

using now has 6 pata drives and 2 sata drives in it and 2 of the pata
drives are on a pci addon card.
If you cannot get pata working in 7.04 there may be additional issues
with that particular kernel that they released with it.

if you have a WD drive, go to the WD website and download one of their
ISO's that can check your drive. You may have a bad drive.
Also to try is one of the older kernel versions that appear in GRUB when
you start up. That worked for me on my laptop.
