Basically the problem persists for a lot of people but it has been

I have the same problem, both in 9.10 and 10.04, and both after fresh
installs. When I play mp3 files or video in banshee, rhythmbox, mplayer,
or vlc the sound skips/stutters randomly during the song (every 20
seconds to 1 minute). I installed the following codecs and programs

I am still having an audio skipping/stuttering problem in 10.04 after a
fresh install. I disabled pulse and the problems goes away. So, I am not
sure what fix is part of current pulseaudio package but it doesn't work
on my machine.
