I can confirm the same bug on a fresh install of Gusty on HP Compaq
nx7400 with Intel chipset. Changing the settings in Gnome (effects off
and then back on) fixed the issue while running Ubuntu, the login screen
is still affected though.

I just wanted to add that all the HP notebook users would be extremely
happy if this thing would get fixed. Running the LCD all the time at the
full brightness really decreases the battery life and is, together with
the suspend issue, one of the two

brightness if running on batteries. For example there is a simple Power
Manager in Kubuntu, and, in general, it allows to setup brightness if

I own a HP notebook model nx7400 EY505ES with BIOS F.08 and neither ubuntu edgy
nor feisty recognizes the brightness control of the built in LCD. The
brightness of the LCD can be easily changed via writing to the file:
/proc/acpi/video/C080/C13F/brightness. The file

I am running Ubuntu 6.10 and Kubuntu feisty on HP Compaq nx7400. There
is no possibility of suspend to RAM on 6.10 with the old kernel. On
feisty with the default kernel 2.6.20 the laptop suspends and it wakes
up, but the screen remains black and the keyboard is innactive.
The same happens while using the bar in totem and a mouse. Gxine plays
the movie well and says that it is OGG 480x352 ISO MPEG-4 (XviD,
ffmpeg). The problem does not appear with all of the movies I play, only
with some.

Arrow keys are not working properly while browsing through an .avi file.
The backwards key desynchronizes the movie, so the video is still (and
the audio is playing) for 2-3 second untill the audio catches up.

My crash didn't have anything to do with quick succesion of files
played, or a visualisation. I played an avi file. Truly I did not know
where to post this crash report - this bug seemed the most appropriate.
If it is of no use I apologise for confusion.
