Oded Arbel : Yes, this still happens on Kubuntu Lucid - you can browse
remote folders from OpenOffice.org save/open dialogs, which use KDE's
dialog, but you can't actually open or save to remote folders.
I've tried compiling this driver with kernel 2.6.31 and it's not
possible at the moment.

This one seems to have changed again for Kubuntu Karmic Alpha 4.
First the Logitech USB trackball didn't work ... but then I found one
could conigure it via manual editing od xorg.conf (first post in this
thread).
Then manual changes to xorg.conf no longer works, but adding a file

It does seem to compile and run reasonably well in 32 bit but the
version you built is not 64 bit safe. I have cleaned up a number of
those issues now and we are regularly committing changes upstream. As
soon as I have a reasonably stable 32/64 bit driver running, I will try
a backport

I got it to compile in staging in our ubuntu-karmic git.

As for carrying this in Karmic, we prefer that the driver at least be
on its way out of staging before we consider it for inclusion. This
keeps the not-inconsiderable maintenance cost of an non-mainstream patch
and its churn
This bug also affects Jaunty, it is still present.
For Intrepid, there was a work-around that was discovered. One could
edit the xorg.conf file, and include the following sections:

Same problem again occurs with 8.10 rc Intrepid release candidate.
Lots of files persistently fail to install with apt-get complaining
about Hash Sum mismatch. Some package lists fail also, with the same
error reported.
Observation: This problem seems to afflict larger files in particular.

This bug has re-surfaced, with a vengeance, in Intrepid release
candidate.
The symptoms with Intrepid are exactly the same as described in this bug
report.

Not yet, I got very frustrated with my crippled mouse functionality. I
use a Logitech Marble Mouse for a medical reason, and it is not an
option for me to use a standard mouse with scroll wheel. If this issue
isn't fixed in Intrepid Ibex
