Hi, my comp was dying intermittently. White flashing lines after running
smoothly. I found a thread that had this fix:
go to System, Administration, Synaptic Package Manager.
once you give it you password, look for grub.
in Ubuntu 10.04 i think it installs grub-pc automatically.

simply searching for a partial filename without a wildcard has the desired
result I think.
I was trying to collect all the screenshots off of my desktop and found that
simply searching for screenshot found all similar files. However, the
wildcards would give you more control.

I had similar problems, where gpointing-device-settings did not seem to stick.
I figured out that in my case the problem was that I set disable touchpad when
typing in the default gnome mouse setup tool (Ubuntu 10.04:
System-Preferences-Mouse under the touchpad tab). I guess the problem is that
