I am having the same problem when running any graphics intense program
on 2.6.35-24-generic kernel, Maverick. I am able to switch to a TTY
(albeit very slowly, and the TTY is being spammed with that error).
However, even after running `sudo restart gdm' I cannot get to a
functional GUI - black
Is the fix released for the CD/USB image? My screen goes blank after I
choose Try without installing, and I have updated to today's daily
image.

Hi, I may have a similar bug or even a duplicate. See bug #642825 if you
are interested.
For me, running normal updates fixed half of the issue - I did at one
point get the 'render ring head not reset to zero' output, but after
updates I only get 'hangcheck_timer_elapsed'.

I confirm this as well on the i386 version of Ubuntu 10.10 alpha3 iso. I
used Unetbootin as well, also with a 2 GB usb flash drive and FAT32
filesystem. This computer has 1 GB of RAM.

Happens to me as well. I have not tested it hardly at all, but after
about 5 times of this occurring, it seems that this happens whenever I
leave a program running in the terminal when the computer goes into
sleep mode. Not very sure of the reason -- one program running was
fold...@home, another
Oh, and to be clear, what exactly happens when this bug occurs is that
the X server restarts and I am brought back to the login screen.

I don't remember much anymore because I had to overwrite that Karmic
installation to write up some papers for school. I did manage to get

I can help you fix both of these problems in one fell swoop because I
just installed my rt2870sta-based wireless card yesterday.
To get Internet access, you must blacklist the rt2800usb driver. This
allows the rt2870sta driver to work. You won't get any of those error
messages anymore because the

Definitely not fixed for me, my bug is this bug #430876 . Since
updating yesterday I have completely lost access to /dev/dri devices.
This bug used to appear but I could still access /dev/dri/card0 as
/dev/card0. Now it is gone completely.
