had to be altered manually each time
output jack -- headphone
via alsamixer.
Also, the right channel had been set to 'mute' by the upgrade to 9.10.

Just discovered: Sound can be put to work properly by altering some of
the adjustments in 'alsamixer' [started via konsole]. It looks as if the
Problem is related to false or lacking presettings.

After some fiddling around with various mini-icons, setting and removing them
on the Desktop and Control Panel, klicking on 'shutdown' or 'restart' just
