I get the following in a popup on an avaratec 3715-eh1 running gnome under
edgy (upgraded from dapper).
Can't access ACPI events in /var/run/acpid.socket
I can sort of resolve this by
/etc/init.d/acpid stop
killall hald
/etc/init.d/acpid start
hald
this is only effective

sudo /etc/init.d/acpid stop
sudo killall hald
sudo /etc/init.d/acpid start
