According to one line fix for Edgy by John Leach:
Don't forget to also change line 318 (no_luks) also
from:
$CRYPTCMD $PARAMS create $dst $src 1
to:
$CRYPTCMD $PARAMS create $dst $src /dev/console
Now it should work for al people who have the new edgy
cryptdisks.function

I reportet the bug to nvidia but they said:
This is a known X server bug which is triggered when using Composite with
Xinerama. You should report it to Ubuntu. The current workaround is to disable
Composite or Xinerama.
This is not the answer I liked to hear. I also get the bug by using

Since upgrade to edgy 6.10 the new boot-routine do not accept hand typed
passkey for cryptdisks.
- When asked for passkey it types the passkey in cleartext to the screen and
reports can't read passkey after enter. After that it asks again for the
passkey. This time
Same problem also on Sony Vaio VGN-FE21M. Work around is using
smartdimmer by starting from console.
