finally, upgrading to 20.04.

I got my new HP Pavilion 15-cc055od laptop to play sound out of the
internal speakers in Xubuntu 16.04.
After days of googling I tried different remedies unsuccessfully until I
stumbled unto this website:

headphones unmutes the speakers but no
sound through them. I also checked on alsamixer and nothing is muted
(except as described above.)

I cannot record in Audacity or Sound Recorder with mic or with line in.
It has worked off and on in the past I do not know why. The mic works in
windows, my rig is dual boot.

I have this same issue in Kubuntu 9.10. Occasionally after an update the
countdown of grub disappeared and I must manually press enter to boot to
the default. The set timeout=10 workaround has fixed the problem until
some other update messes things up again.

issues at all.
I botched the upgrade from 7.10 somehow so I fresh installed and have no

more problem with subclassing in Ubuntu.
