I'm seeing this problem on my production environment. I'm dependent on
TLS renegotiation. Downgrading OpenSSL to 1.1.0 solves the problem.
Upgrading both OpenSSL to 1.1.1 and Apache to 2.4.39 and disabling
TLSv1.3 solves it too.

This also affects me. I use Ubuntu 14.04 over a AMD A10 APU Desktop,

OK,
I discovered that my investigation wasn't finished when I red the first

Where do you have a file called .gnome-system-monitor.manolo ??
I can't reproduce manolo's bug with gksu (i.e everything went fine when
copying files in .local/share/applications between users and chown them
to the other user).
I have bad news Manolo:
I did a little bit of 'investigation' on xsu:
Manolo,
You errors messages are XSu related, you should try the same thing with gksu,
not XSu.
As explained, think to open xsession-errors BEFORE reproducing the bug and
reload it each time it produce a new message.
Good luck in your investigation!

Since Nautilus is linked with MANY things, there are many reasons for Nautilus

I had the same problem for months with a GeForce 6100 embedded on a K8N-VM

It was stupidly restricted to 64Mb. Updating to 128 Mb made me happy ;-)
