i think i figured out. before my Update Manager is started, I enabled

Thats certainly an issue then. I am not able to use network manager since I
upgraded from Ubuntu 9.04. Neither 9.10 nor 10.04 is able to connect using
the network manager and wvdial (GNome PPP) is the only way to use internet.

I tried playing and music in GNOME and it works but I can not seem to
do the same in KDE in the 9.10 beta release even after updates

I am sorry, but I can't provide you any details. I left the installation long
back.
My laptop is too slow for running VMWare with any installed OS. Finally I gave
up as for any operation, it used to take many minutes.

I am new to Ubuntu as well as to Linux.
I use VMWare installed on Windows to launch Ubuntu.
I was getting insufficient space when I tried to copy some files
(together around 100MB) in /home/ubuntu folder. I did not know any way
to allocate more space for this folder.
