I would like to add that ever since I have installed a different theme
(the Dichotomy theme in the Ubuntu repositories) the corruption in the
top panel is non-existent. I can confirm this since I reverted to the
default ambiance theme many times only to find the corruption return to

Similar issue on my Thinkpad T400 as well. Installed the newer kernel
twice on 10.04 beta 2. both times there was a kernel oops on reboot.
However, I can confirm that I did not have any issues installing the
updates on a generic desktop workstation at work where the installation
went smoothly.

Two major bugs here:
1. Using default Primary and Secondary DNS settings (in my case, Ubuntu
discovered my ISP's appropriate DNS servers) for an ethernet LAN
connection makes the local network inaccessible if the internet
connection drops or is disconnected. I'm no expert,
I would also like to add that the first bug can be resolved by putting
in the local router's address (192.168.1.1) and doing a dns lookup using
the router. However the problem with that is that it takes roughly 3000
years to open up a shared folder on another computer.
