I have the same problem as Schmu on Ubuntu 10.04. Same hardware, same
symptoms. It's playing, but no sound comes out.
I've had audio come out of it, but only one channel out of a port marked
as an input!?!
It seems that the driver and alsamixer don't push the right buttons.

I found the same problem on a clean install of 9.04 to an old Dell
Dimension 4300. If I enable Remote desktop, the CPU utilization pegs at
100%. When I turn it off, it drops to 20% or below.
