"Select Printer Driver" screen while "Loading drivers database..." and
the swirling busy icon are up, so I don't have the printer at all.

Yes - still there - but theme dependent. Ambiance and Radiance are the same as
in your image.
The Arcs (dark, darker) work, though the borders are hard to see.
High Contrast works.

I have since upgraded to 12.04, as 12.10 wasn't usable and there doesn't yet
see to be a fix - but here is the lspci from 12.04 (which is working fine so

It shows the text flipping back and forth from m to gtk which are
the first letters of 2 things I tried typing into the dashboard
textbox, one was type a while ago and the other right before the system
locked.

Shortly after the system became unresponsive and I used my phone to record the
dashboard textbox flipping between to chunks of text I tried to type into the
box.

Very similar or same issue -
When I clicked on the switcher in lower corner, it did switch to the
workspace with the application that I just moved there visible. However
I had no way to get back to my original, there were no panels, no icons
etc., except the background was there. I am using
