I added the report to this bug as that's what Apport showed
automatically. As it happens, Apport opened as soon as I rebooted after
an upgrade.

I would just like to add that this is Gnome Specific. I installed Kde4
and Xfce4 and logged into both desktops from Gdm with touchpad working
fine. I also tried with Kdm (to check for Gdm/Gnome related), still ok.
So something Xorg/Gnome related isn't working right.

I can confirm this also happening with Sis graphic card on my Acer 3004.
System Updated 04/04.
Login stops at grainy screen, and the mouse cursor is just a square. Attempts
Ctrl+Alt+F1 to get to console causes the system to freeze.
Hard reboot, and get to Gdm. Click on user and input password

Basically, as long as the sisfb module is loaded at boot, and the kernel
argument video=sisfb is added, the colour depth problem disappears. As
yet, no proprietary driver available or planned by Sis, so no chances of
3D acceleration. At least with sisfb there is a usable screen.
