Well here we are at Nov 5 2017 and Ubuntu17.01 still has the same problem. It
is interesting that Debian unstable has a working copy. I really need this
program and have wasted hours trying to get it to work. The J. Schoeberl
suggestion above may work for some but not for me.

Correct to my previous comment. After running on kernel
4.6.3-040603-generic I do still see the "funny repetition patterns (back
in time glitches)", but it seems less frequent. The other problems
(black screen and buffer underrun in dmesg) have not recurred.

I was having this same problem running kernel 4.4.0-28-generic in 16.04.
Upgrading to kernel 4.6.3-040603-generic seems to have resolved the
problems (or at least made it rare enough that I don't notice it
anymore). On 4.4 the graphic errors were particular common (every few
seconds) when using

Edit: Behaviour is *exactly* the same as when the bug was not fixed -
brightness can only be relatively moved slightly, and when it does it
flickers. It can be moved specifying a value (not just up/down), but
still flickers.

Using the -r1-noblpatch kernel (the clean one), I get a shortened
range i.e. I can use ~30%-70% but accessing values outside that range
causes flickering (using gnome3 and the Fn+F7/F8 keys). This seems to be

No, it ain't fixed.
Now, I have a us-en keyboard, but all the keys have MOVED UP 1 ROW!
So 5 is r, 0 is o, 6 is t and so on.
This 2.6.35-25-server on Ubuntu 10.10.
Does anyone know how to move the keys back down 1 row, it is real hard

I haven't been able to put any Google Talk accounts only since I put the
Beta1 on. It was a clean install. I was able to add accounts without
problem in Karmic.

This also affects me - although my contact data in evolution is from an
Exchange 2003 Server. It seems to simply be an issue copying data from
one Evolution address book to the CouchDB address book. Don't mean to

This problem apparently can't be solved by updating the graphics driver;
it occurs at nearly every boot now. I'm using nvidia-glx-180 and had to
switch back to GDM as my login manager.
I'll attach Xorg.log, along with the output of lspci -vvnn.

I hadn't made any customizations since copying back the standard
xorg.conf before activating the new driver module, so there may not be
any useful information contained here. Nevertheless, I'm including a
copy of xorg.conf as well.

really 128MB by default. Depending on the OS, this can be up to a little

An update to this issue:
I had just installed nvidia-glx-180 and reconfigured the kdm package to
use kdm again (two days ago.) Since then, the problem hasn't recurred,
and many of the compositing issues have gone away.
This appears to simply be a buggy driver issue, solved by an update.

I've had to switch to GDM instead of KDE4's KDM, since it tends to crash
Xorg before login. This crash causes bulletproof X to default to low-
graphics mode after server restart, and occurs in both the KDE 4.1 and

After enabling desktop window effects in Feisty (yes, I realize this is
still an alpha) under GNOME, the wobbling effects work nicely and
[somewhat] smoothly, but I have to minimize the file manager and restore
it to view
I am experiencing the same issue. I have purged the package but am still
unable to reinstall it.
When I first ran into the problem, I completed my dist-upgrade with a
echo lvm2 hold | dpkg --set-selections
My workaround for now was to unpack the files, modify the preinst file
to exit 0
