An update to this issue: I had just installed nvidia-glx-180 and reconfigured the kdm package to use kdm again (two days ago.) Since then, the problem hasn't recurred, and many of the compositing issues have gone away. This appears to simply be a buggy driver issue, solved by an update. -- KDM

[Bug 355202] [NEW] KDM Causes Xorg to Crash in Intrepid

2009-04-04 Thread Kelly Roach
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdm I've had to switch to GDM instead of KDE4's KDM, since it tends to crash Xorg before login. This crash causes bulletproof X to default to low- graphics mode after server restart, and occurs in both the KDE 4.1 and 4.2 versions. GDM still works

Public bug reported: (Well, they don't entirely work correctly...) After enabling desktop window effects in Feisty (yes, I realize this is still an alpha) under GNOME, the wobbling effects work nicely and [somewhat] smoothly, but I have to minimize the file manager and restore it to view

[Bug 47972] Re: preinst reports exit status 10

I am experiencing the same issue. I have purged the package but am still unable to reinstall it. When I first ran into the problem, I completed my dist-upgrade with a echo lvm2 hold | dpkg --set-selections My workaround for now was to unpack the files, modify the preinst file to exit 0
