Unity panels and window frames not displayed after boot

I'm running lucid and as I understand it the new grub version uses
grub.cfg instead of menu.lst. So I can't understand why it doesn't look
for grub.cfg instead. I find it very annoying that I have to update
grub.cfg by my self.

When entering full screen in totem the full screen shows, but for a
short moment the desktop is shown and then the full screen sticks. In
VLC the desktop is shown upon exiting full screen before the small
screen is shown. I believe that I have also seen flashes of the desktop

Sorry, this doesn't affect gnome-panel. I added gnome-panel by misstake
and now I don't know how to remove it.

I normally use a dual screen setup with a VGA and my laptop screen. I've
moved the one and only panel that I have to the bottom of the VGA screen
(which by the way had to be moved with Alt even though I've selected
Super for that??). I
