You're calling this a won't fix, but this behavior means that laptops on docks or connected to external displays (while the laptop is closed) go to sleep and are unusable: that seems to be a bit harsh to those who use an external monitor with the laptop closed. -- You received this bug

For me, this problem started not with the upgrade to Gutsy, but sometime within the last two weeks. For me, however, it's not that the appearance dialog doesn't work, it's display just doesn't update to reflect what you are doing to it. For now, my workaround is to run:
